Nasraddin Hodja’s quickness of mind and wittiness was evident from the time he was a child.
There was a festival in town and Nasraddin’s father brought him along. One of his father’s friends, touching Nasraddin’s cheeks affectionately, said, “They tell me that you’re a very smart young fellow. Tell me, what is an eggplant?”
“A baby starling which has not yet opened its eyes,” replied little Nasraddin at once.
